The One Thing God Cares About Most

For the last 3 months I have been preaching on the book of Ephesians. This letter that Paul wrote has absolutely wrecked me. But in a very good way.

What’s interesting is that Paul talks so much about our identity and who we are in Jesus during this letter.

He talks about the fact that our identity is not achieved through us but rather received by us.

This stands in complete contrast to what the culture of today, offers or demands that we seek our identity from.

And if we really want to know exactly what God cares about most, we just have to look in the Bible and see what He talks about a lot. One thing that is very apparent in the letter to the Ephesians is the new nature that you and I get when Jesus finds us and saves us.

We receive a new self, which is created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Eph. 4:24). This is an echo back to Genesis where we were created in the image of God.

So here is one thing that I believe God cares about most:

Who we are becoming.

This has been somewhat of a revelation to me in the last few months. As I keep thinking and contemplating on this thought – I can’t help but realize how often we live in the future, not realizing God is forming us in the present.

We worry so much about what the future holds that we inevitably forget the One who holds that future.

So if the point and purpose of my life here on earth is to look more like Jesus, who I am becoming is much more important than what I am doing. But what I am doing, is forming and shaping what I am becoming.

Maybe the plans and the dreams we have for our life are completely different from what God has prepared for us.

I know that God won’t necessary give us everything we want – but He will for sure give us everything that we need.

So maybe you don’t need to wait for the next season to do something different. Maybe this is the season where God is chiseling you to look more like His Son Jesus Christ.

So that when we do get to heaven, and meet Jesus face to face – there won’t be much of a difference between who I am and who Jesus is – because that is the goal of my life – to become more like Jesus.

To embrace His passions and motivations and make them my own.

For the glory of Jesus and for the joy of the people in our life.

Question: How does this though of who you are becoming impact the way that you make decisions in your life? Do you agree?
